    Centro Carioca de Design

    Centro Carioca de Design (CCD) integrates the idea to boost the Historical and Cultural Heritage of Rio de Janeiro with initiatives related to the creative economy, stimulating urban thought through design. The centre is a space for discussions, exhibitions and analysis of design in Rio, featuring exhibition galleries and integrated multipurpose rooms for conferences, meetings, workshops and other activities. Centro Carioca de Design also houses Studio-X Rio – laboratory of thought development around the city, a partnership of the local City Hall with the University of Columbia, of New York. The CCD is located in the house where the opera singer Bidu Sayão was born and lived until the age of five. Restored in 2008, the property became a head office for CCD and the inauguration, in March 2010, was part of the process of revitalization of the Tiradentes Square.

    Culture.pl provides daily fresh information on the most exciting Polish cultural events worldwide.

    It is the biggest and most comprehensive source of knowledge about Polish culture – apart from event listings for Poland and beyond, it boasts a wealth of artist bios, reviews, essays, synopses and profiles of cultural institutions. A special section dedicated to Polish design includes information about the latest trends, works and projects. For over a decade now, the culture.pl website has been operated by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute – a national cultural institution aiming to strengthen Polish cultural impact and to benefit international cultural exchange.

    Pursuing its mission, the Adam Mickiewicz Institute has been instrumental in presenting Polish culture at leading galleries, theatres, clubs and festivals in cooperation with key partners: Bozar, La Monnaie, Edinburgh International Festival, Southbank Centre, Barbican Centre, National Theatre, Whitechapel Gallery, London Design Festival, Martin Gropius Bau, Teatro Real, The Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts, Golden Mask Festival, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Lincoln Center and many more. The 4,000 projects carried out by the Institute so far include major cultural events in various countries, among them the Polish Year in Israel, POLSKA! YEAR in the UK, and the International Cultural Programme of the Polish EU Presidency.  Moreover, the Institute has launched several exciting ongoing projects: a programme promoting Polish design worldwide, the East European Performing Arts Platform, the I, CULTURE Orchestra, Polska Music and Project Asia to name but a few.

    Worldwide promotion of Polish design and its continuous support is one of the main priorities of the Adam Mickiewicz Institute. Our success in the pursuit of this goal has been possible thanks to fruitful cooperation with such renowned partners as Salone Internazionale del Mobile (Milan), Maison&Objet (Paris), Paris Design Week, DW! Sao Paulo Design Weekend, Inno Design Tech Expo (Hong Kong), Business of Design Week (Hong Kong), Istanbul Design Week, International Furniture Fair Singapore, Design Trade (Copenhagen), London Design Festival, International Contemporary Furniture Fair (NYC), Blueprint Magazine, Icon Magazine, deezen.com and Wallpaper*.

    The Spirit of Poland

    The Spirit of Poland is a joint initiative of designers and founders of Polish brands, which aims at showcasing the potential of Polish designs abroad. The series of The Spirit of Poland consists of exhibitions and accompanying events, at which young design community meets, and through which design becomes a promotion tool for Polish creativity internationally. The first of the series was the exhibition organised at Tokyo Designers Week 2010, developed as a result of collaboration of designers with the Polish Embassy. Thanks to support from the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, the exhibition was shown in 2011 at 100% Design in London and again, at Tokyo Designers Week. Last year the exhibition was shown in Brazil during the DW! São Paulo Design Weekend.
