The Spirit of Poland is an initiative, which aims at promoting the potential of Polish design abroad. The first in a series of this year’s exhibitions, organised in cooperation with Culture.pl, will start on the 14th August in São Paulo as part of a rich programme of DW! São Paulo Design Weekend.

As a result of collaboration with MADE, which is the Brazilian design promotion forum, The Spirit of Poland will present products from over a dozen Polish brands. The aim of the exhibition is showcasing Polish material culture, its history and contemporary development through a presentation of the diversity of Polish companies, in which development designers play an important role. What are we showing in Brazil?

The first group of brands focuses its business model on R&D, technology as well as production. In the core of these brands are: the Intellectual Property, patents and unique technological solutions. Examples of such companies are: Zieta Prozessdesign, CSTM and Nobilekiteboarding. The second group are the design studios, which developed their own brands, like jewellery brands TAKK and PET PETITS. Another group consists of the studios combining design and manufacturing, developing signature products under their own brand. Among those are: Kosmos Project, MALAFOR and Tabanda. The fourth type of companies is the ones, where the main area of business is manufacturing, but where design is being used by its owners in a very conscious way. This model is represented, for example, by lighting company – Kafti. Another interesting brand concept is presented by Vzór, which focuses on reviving old, iconic examples of Polish design. And for instance WellDone® is working together with designers and people who are at the risk of social exclusion.
